VOXEL-MAN TempoSurg - A new dimension in ENT surgery training and planning

The VOXEL-MAN TempoSurg simulator is a unique tool for training and planning both the classical and the navigated surgical access to the middle ear. The system is based on virtual 3D models of the skull base derived from high-resolution CT data.

The trainee sees the virtual surgical site displayed in stereoscopic mode and controls the drill with a force feedback device. Thus the simulated procedure becomes nearly identical to the real one concerning the patient's orientation, the surgeon's viewing direction, hand orientation and haptic feeling. The trainee may choose view angle, magnification, type and size of the drill as well as its rotation speed. In addition, the user may navigate with three orthogonal cross-sectional views.

Surgical Training. For surgical training, a set of models derived from patient cases with labeled organs at risk is provided. For the early training phase, coloring of the organs at risk both in the 3D surgical site and the cross-sectional views can be provided and alarm can be given when organs at risk are injured. Different levels of support can be chosen. Compared to classical methods, training using VOXEL-MAN TempoSurg provides a number of major advantages:

Surgical Planning. Virtual bone models may be created from imported patient specific DICOM CT data. Thus, using the above described tools, in complicated cases interventions may be realistically rehearsed in advance of the real procedure.

Surgical Navigation. Needless to say - VOXEL-MAN TempoSurg can be used as a virtual surgical navigation system. With the haptic feeling of a real pointer, the technique of surgical navigation may be exercised.

VOXEL-MAN TempoSurg is distributed exclusively by Spiggle & Theis and selected partners.
